Osaka, Japan, August 30, 2026 – The Asia Pacific Padel Tour has crowned its champions at the APPT Padel Dojo Grand Slam Osaka. It was the first Grand Slam Japan has ever hosted, coming less than a year after the tour’s Japanese debut at Open Tokyo. In total, 94 pairs from 11 countries played six draws over three days at Padel Dojo. They competed for a USD 13,000 prize pool. Notably, the field ranged from 14 to 63 years old. The Osaka Grand Slam results follow below.
Miguel González Becomes a Champion Again After Seven Months
Miguel González García (ESP) and Cristian Germán Gutiérrez (ARG) won the Pro Male title. In the final, they beat Eduard Altimires Ros and Adria Mercadal Berenguer (ESP).
It was González García’s second title of 2026, after January’s Pad Thai Padel Grand Slam in Bangkok. The seven months in between tell the story. He finished runner-up at Blue Tree Open Phuket III in March, then again at Penang in April. Three straight semifinals followed, at Grand Slam Platinum Hong Kong, the KL Open and the Pattaya Grand Slam. In fact, Osaka was his first final since April, and he turned it into a title.
His partner, Cristian Germán Gutiérrez, is worth a mention of his own. He does not sit among the tour’s top-ranked players, and he came to Osaka without active ranking points. Yet he arrived with long experience in international padel, and he left Japan as a Grand Slam champion.
Carla and Patrícia Make It Three in a Row Together in 2026
Carla Serrano (ESP) and Patrícia Ribeiro (POR) won the Pro Female title. It was their third title as a pair, after Grand Slam Platinum Hong Kong in April and the KL Open in June. Notably, those are the only three tournaments they have played together on record.
Maiko Kutsuna and Rio Yamada (JPN) finished as runners-up, a first Grand Slam final on record for both. Meanwhile, Kae Tokumoto and Saki Tsukamoto (JPN) reached the semifinals.
Home Players Win Pro Mix and Every Amateur Title
Teruaki Ando and Nagomi Utsumi (JPN) won the Pro Mix title, beating Ikkei Masaki and Kae Tokumoto (JPN) in the final. For Utsumi, it was a first APPT title on record. Tokumoto, meanwhile, had come to Osaka chasing the double she completed at Open Tokyo in 2025, and she reached the Pro Female semifinals as well.
Home players won all three Amateur titles. Miuna Yanagi and Mika Ogawa (JPN) won Amateur Female. Also, Yamato Suzuki (JPN) and Diego Montilla (ESP) took Amateur Male. Furthermore, Haruna Suzuki and Hiroki Iwamoto (JPN) won Amateur Mix, and Iwamoto also reached the Pro Male qualifying final.
What Osaka Showed About Japanese Padel
Over 70% of the field was Japanese, and more than 40 of those players arrived with no APPT appearance on record. Notably, they ranged from teenagers to players in their sixties. Japanese pairs won three of the six titles, and Japanese players reached the final in five of them.
That combination is the real result of the weekend. Less than a year after its first tour event, Japan can fill a Grand Slam draw with home players, carry them into the late rounds, and still leave room for dozens with no APPT record behind them. Tellingly, the country is no longer only hosting padel. It is producing the players to fill the draws.
The Tournament Partners of the Osaka Grand Slam
Padel Dojo hosted the weekend across its four courts in Amagasaki, a short train ride from central Osaka. The club runs its own academy and stages national-level competition.
